6.5mm bullets

recently talked to Frank Green w/Bartlein Barrels who has shot both the 135 and 153 A-tip. Frank told me both of these 6.5 bullets shot extremely well but has only been able to shoot them out to 430 yards so far.

He’s supposed to have some of the .30 cal A-Tip bullets pretty soon so it’ll be interesting to hear how they shoot as well.

I have some of the 135’s but as of yet, have not been able to shoot any of them.

have shot these in my 6.5PRC and they shot very well. did load workups with H-1000 and retumbo and they mached up real close to the 147s for velocity using the same powder charge. they liked to be closer to the lands once I went past .020 they went to hell.
one thing that I noticed but didn’t pay much attention to till I seen the cross section. the 140 and 147 always had jacket and lead fragments around where they hit the dirt back stops but the 153 didn’t and the penetration was deeper.

The 6.5mm Bergers use the same copper jackets as the 6.8mm/.277 Bergers. I have not seen/experience expansion of the 6.8mm Bergers. The jacket is thick enough to maintain structural integrity on impact if it doesn’t hit bone. The bullet yaws and penetrates tail first like an FMJ. I even have put a VLD in a vice and sawed off the tip to expose an 1/8″ HP that did not expand. Some hunters have found .277 VLDs intact behind their game in the snow. 6.5 jackets should be stronger. I appreciate Bergers for their accuracy.
