I clicked on this thread thinking 270 all the way. Also 30-06 with 165’s and 300 win mag with the lighter bullets.

Have one friend’s Sako 338 win mag that it is the best load for his gun at 72 gr with 225 gr flat base TSX’s.

Had a Sauer lightweight 30-06 that would shoot well with 59 grand the 168 TSX’s.

A 280 Wtby lightweight with 56 grand the 140 gr Accubonds

Numerous 270’s but mostly with the 140 gr bullets. IMR4350 worked best for me generally with the 130 gr bullets. It is faster than H4831 and is a completely different powder. That 60gr/4831/130gr bullet/ .270WCF load was Jack O’Connor’s famous recipe based on surplus WWII 20mm Oerlikon H4831Today’s H4831 is much the same, except you can’t buy it in paper bags for a few cents/lb anymore.

:)

IMR 4931 is a really great powder in many, many cartridges. Some that I have had extensive experience with is 6mm Rem., .243, 30:06, .270 win., and 7mm Rem. Mag. I would certainly question my .270 rifle if I could not find a good load with it.

The 300 Win Mag! I have been using 71.0gr of it under a 190gr SMK seated .005 off the lands in a Savage 112 HB for years. ( Primer = Fed 215M ) It’s consistent and accurate. I’m proud to say I have shot several 1 hole groups ( 3 shots ) with it. Velocity is just under 2800 fps..270 WCFs love IMR 4831. If it won’t shoot with 57-58gr IMR 4831/130gr Sierras, you obviously have a rogue .270…It happens.

:D
