.450 Bushmaster – Hornady Cases

Hornady’s brass cases offers re-loaders excellent uniformity in wall thickness, weight, and internal capacity. The cases allow proper seating of the bullet, not only in the case, but in the chamber as well.

450 Bushmaster

looked at the 450 Bushmaster, the 458 Socom, and the 50 Beowulf. A friend let me shoot his 50 Beowulf and I ordered an Alexander Arms AR-15 in 50 Beowulf. An AR-15 with .45-70 ballistics is fun to shoot, great on hogs, and a good brush gun for deer hunting.

As a southwestern Michigander, I am glad to see the change. I have never been happy with slugs. The last couple years, slugs have gotten a lot better, but for years, I used an inline muzzleloader. In fact, I got my first slug gun less than ten years ago. That said, slugs have gotten a lot better. However, from what I have seen from my friend’s 450 BM, they seem to be everything a slug gun is and then more. The one thing is that it headspaces on the case mouth like a semi-auto pistol round. This is spurring a new run of cartridge development.

Take a look at Winchester jumping on the bandwagon with the .350 Legend. Same concept but .358 cal on a straight walled .223 cartridge. Personally, I havent gotten on the .450 BM bandwagon yet. I am seriously looking at a Ruger #1 in .460 S&W Mag. Still legal but headspaces on the rim and slightly better performance as load development was not made with the AR assumption.

Hornady Cases

picked one up here in my home state of Michigan last summer. A Ruger American. I was interested in it as it was somewhat close to the same bullet and trajectory of my muzzle loader. Minus all of the possible moisture and cleaning issues that come along with a muzzle loader. Now, when you go into a gun store here, the 450 selection outnumbers the Rem 870 by 10 to 1. Accuracy is outstanding at .500 moa at 100 yrds. There is however a little skuttle about the Hornady bullet expansion performance in the state. Everyone would like to see a Barns bullet offering.
Just my 2 cents.
